Production

Five of the seven major sedimentary basins in Western Australia have known hydrocarbon accumulations, with 2007 production coming from the Perth, Carnarvon and Canning Basins. 68 fields produced during calendar year 2007.For the calendar year 2007 Crude oil and condensate production averaged 0.052 Gigalitres per day (328,000 barrels per day) and average gas production was 0.080 Giga Cubic Metes per day (2.83 BCF/D) . Cumulative production for the State at 31 December 2007 was 228.2 GL Oil, 92.5 GL Condensate and 447.7 GCM Gas.

Reserves and resources to 31 December 2007 are 161 GL Oil, 294 GL Condensate and 3705 GCM Gas at the 50 per cent expectation level.  There are also a number of discoveries and fields with scope for recovery.

Production by basin for the year was as follows:

Reserves

Petroleum Reserves in Western Australia have been compiled under three main headings, Developed Fields, Contingent Resources Held Under Retention Lease and Contingent Resources Not Held Under Retention Lease .

Developed Fields are those currently producing fields located offshore in either Commonwealth or State Waters or onshore within Western Australia.

In all of the above categories reserves or resources have been quoted at the 90 per cent and 50 per cent probability of recovery levels.

There are also a number of discoveries or fields with scope for recovery which may or may not eventually prove viable.

Figures for these potential resources are shown in the Sub-economic Contingent Resources table.
