Do you know a local innovator?

A valuable information session will be held next week to provide advice on nominating in the WA Inventor of the Year Award.

The seminar will be held on Thursday 24 April at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup.

The evening will provide advice on entering the award and how the Inventor Plus Program can help further develop a business idea toward commercialisation.

To develop or commercialise an idea, the WA Inventor of the Year Award offers generous prizes ranging from $25,000 to $101,000.

Executive Officer of the Innovation Centre WA Michelle Nicolson said the award is open to all individuals and organisations with an ABN and is considered one of the State's most exciting and rewarding programs for products and services at the pre-commercialisation stages of development.

“This information session will offer an insight into the award process, as well as some tips on submitting the best possible entry,” Ms Nicolson said.

“One of last year's finalists, Professor Kamal Alameh, will be there to speak about his journey throughout the whole competition, including how the award has helped his innovation along the commercialisation path.”

Professor Alameh was recognised for his ground-breaking work into computer chip technology which allows high speed communication between processors to be realised in real time. This enables the computer to work up to a hundred times faster than any PC currently available on the market.

Other guest speakers at the event will include Russ Davis from the Small Business Development Corporation, who will speak on how small to medium businesses can be helped through grant and education programs.

Information and selection criteria can also be downloaded from www.doir.wa.gov.au/inventor or by contacting the staff at the Innovation Centre WA on (08) 9361 9045.
