Industry and the public are welcome to inspect drillcore archived at GSWA's core libraries in Perth and Kalgoorlie. Both core libraries have an internal air-conditioned area and an external area for core viewing.
All requests for viewing/sampling core and cuttings must be submitted via corelibrary.requests@doir.wa.gov.au. On acknowledgement of your approval you will be asked to contact the core librarian to schedule a suitable time to view core/cuttings. There may be occasions during peak periods where clients may need to wait several weeks until viewing tables are available.
Approvals are granted subject to clients completing viewing/sampling within 10 consecutive days from commencing viewing at the core library. An extension may be granted subject to overall client scheduling demands at the time.
Should you require further information please contact our core librarians.
The Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) permits sampling of drillcore on a case-by-case basis. Our policy is to permit sampling only if the destruction of the drillcore will increase its scientific value. Sampling will not be allowed if less than a quarter of the core would remain after the proposed sampling.
Where sampling is approved, extraction of the samples will be performed by GSWA personnel.
As a condition of sampling, GSWA requires the sampler to submit a report detailing all findings and results of the analysis. This report will become public information.
